Magestic Menindee Lakes
Menindee Lakes is home to a magnificent forest of dead eucalyptus trees (of the black box variety), which appear to rise mysteriously above its waters. The pounding sensation of gallons of water tumbling into the surrounding lakes from the weirs above (barriers that control the flow and release of water) surpasses this grandeur — and it's truly a sight to behold.
You're also right on the doorstep of the magnificent Kinchega National Park, so there's plenty to see and do.
Our tours begin exploring the Lake Menindee Lookout. Cross the railway tracks and stroll along the Menindee Lake Dam Wall to see the cascading waters below. It's also worth going down to the water's edge to get up close and personal with the eucalyptus trees.
National Park of Kinchega
Consider being surrounded by red sand dunes, river gum silhouettes, and riverbanks. The nature overload is incredible, and it truly feels like you're out in the middle of nowhere. The waterways of Kinchega attract a variety of wildlife, including emus, kangaroos, galahs, and goannas, which you will almost certainly see during your visit to the National Park. There are excellent driving trails to choose from: the River Drive (20km), the Lake Drive (18km), and the Woolshed Drive (6.5km), all of which are well-marked and easy to follow.
A brief history
The Paakantyi people, who navigated up and down the Darling River on the park's eastern edge, were the park's traditional owners. It is also famous for its woolshed, where 6 million sheep were shorn. These shearing quarters have been meticulously preserved and can be seen during your visit to the park.
Billabong Walk at Kinchega Homestead
This 2.3-kilometer, 1.5-hour loop begins at the Old Kinchega Homestead Carpark. At the end of the loop, you'll pass through dense scrub, open plains, and an impressive billabong.
Tours depart twice a week, while the River Lady Cruise operates Wednesday & Fridays these are optional activities to compliment our day tours.
