Where the Outback Awakens from Above
There are moments in travel that feel truly rare — and witnessing the transformation of Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre from the air is one of them.
This 3 Day Lake Eyre Experience is more than a tour — it’s a curated journey into the heart of Australia’s outback, blending rich heritage, remote landscapes, and an unforgettable aerial perspective. From the historic streets of Broken Hill to the vast salt plains of Lake Eyre and the rugged beauty of Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, this fully hosted experience is designed for travellers seeking comfort, access, and deep connection to place.
Day 1 — Arrival in Broken Hill & Silverton Discovery
Your journey begins in the iconic outback town of Broken Hill, where you’ll be personally welcomed and immersed in the region’s rich mining and cultural history.
Spend the afternoon exploring both Broken Hill and nearby Silverton — a town frozen in time and famous for its film backdrops and sweeping desert landscapes. Along the way, you’ll uncover stories of resilience, creativity, and the pioneering spirit that defines the outback.
As the day winds down, enjoy a tasting at the Broken Hill Distillery before indulging in a memorable dinner at the Old Salt Bush Restaurant, curated by acclaimed chef Lee Cecchin.
Your evening concludes with a comfortable overnight stay at the historic Royal Exchange Hotel.
Day 2 — Lake Eyre Scenic Flight & Arkaroola Wilderness
Today is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
Departing by scenic aircraft at 10am, you’ll travel north over the changing outback landscape, passing over Lake Frome and the dramatic terrain surrounding Leigh Creek.
As you approach Lake Eyre, the scale becomes surreal — shimmering salt plains, intricate waterways, and the life-giving flow of Cooper Creek feeding into the basin. From above, you’ll witness one of nature’s rarest transformations.
Highlights include:
The eastern shoreline of Lake Eyre
The vast expanse of Lake Eyre South
The mysterious Marree Man etched into the desert
After a brief stop in Marree, your journey continues to the remote and spectacular Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.
Here, the outback reveals another side — ancient geology, rugged ridgelines, and some of the clearest night skies in the world.
Optional experiences like the Ridge Top 4WD tour or stargazing offer deeper immersion into this extraordinary environment.
Day 3 — Flinders Ranges & Return Journey
Your final day takes you above one of Australia’s most iconic landscapes—the Flinders Ranges.
From the air, marvel at the natural amphitheater of Wilpena Pound, where ancient formations tell stories millions of years in the making.
Returning to Broken Hill, your journey concludes with a final evening at the Royal Exchange Hotel, perfectly positioned within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.
