Under the Same Outback Sky ✨

Sometimes, the Outback speaks through stories.
This week, after sharing our thoughts about station stays and life under the vast skies of Far West NSW, we received the most beautiful message from one of our readers, John.
“My mates & I, in our early teens used to camp under the stars out near the Pinnacle Station which was then owned by John & Pam Lord (Thackaringa). This was well before the mines closed off the area. Rabbits were abundant and we would get pocket money from selling rabbits at five shillings a pair back in town. Looking up at the stars at night would have us wondering if there was an end to the sky as it was too hard to imagine it went on forever. Your email made me really nostalgic.” – John

There’s something about the Outback that imprints itself on your soul.
The crackle of a small campfire. The stillness of the land. The vastness of a sky so big it challenges your imagination.
John’s words remind us why station stays, bush camping, and time on country are so powerful. They’re not just trips. They’re memory-makers. They’re perspective-givers. They’re moments that stay with you for decades.
At Overland Adventures, this is exactly why we do what we do. Whether it’s a remote station stay, a guided outback journey, or simply sitting quietly under a sky full of stars — we’re not just creating itineraries. We’re helping people reconnect.
Reconnect to land. Reconnect to simplicity. Reconnect to wonder.

Because even today, when you look up at the night sky out here in Far West NSW, it still feels endless. And it still makes you ask the same question John did all those years ago — does it ever end?
Thank you, John, for sharing your memories with us. You reminded us all why the Outback matters.
If you’ve got your own story of camping, station stays, or life under the big sky, we’d love to hear it. Simply reply to this email and share your memory — we might feature it in a future newsletter.
See you under the stars,
Janine & the Overland Adventures Team
